My life as a healing professional spans five decades: I first worked as a registered nurse and as a family nurse practitioner. Seven of those years were in the Himalayas of northern India, in Kathmandu Nepal, and in Germany. Late in my career, I turned toward clinical herbalism, studying with Rosemary Gladstar. Upon completing my formal herbal education, I was fortunate to have two years of clinical mentoring with Paul Bergner. Alongside my clinical training, I began my herbal practice, and was accepted as a Registered Clinical Herbalist of the American Herbalist Guild. Then, in 2020, the Bach Flower Remedies opened up a new and profound direction for my career and for my life.
Dr. Edward Bach was a brilliant and respected physician, immunologist, homeopath, and researcher, who spent his life searching for a simple and natural way of healing. He abandoned his successful London medical practice and devoted himself to a new system of medicine, now known as the Bach Flower Remedies, that cured illness by bringing back into balance an individual’s underlying emotional state. He believed our physical health depends on our way of thinking, our emotions, and our feelings. He confirmed this by his personal experience and extensive research.
Pet owners know that their animals have emotions and personalities, and that they can suffer – both when their owners are unhappy, and when their own life circumstances cause them distress. Dr. Bach used his remedies to help all types of animals. He had a spaniel named Lulu, and his assistant Nora Weeks had a succession of cats. They both treated their animals with Flower Remedies when they saw that they were unhappy.
Animals do not generally have deep-seated, complex issues, so not only is it fairly straightforward to understand their needs, they also respond very quickly to a remedy. They do communicate differently from humans, yet most owners can tell what is going on with their pets.
Although I am clinically trained with advanced degrees in conventional medicine, and certified in herbal therapies, I have chosen to work primarily with Dr. Bach’s system of healing. I truly believe this gentle energetic approach can best align both mind and body.
The grateful words of others are lovely flowers full of fragrance and color.
